Biography :

 

Having studied classical singing with Prof. Claudia Eder and having obtained the state diploma, master as a music teacher for secondary school level from the ‘Hochschule für Musik” (National State Conservatory for music) and the University of Mainz , Patricia Zehme continued postgraduate studies to obtain the diploma as a concert-soloist opera singer, studying voice with Prof. Gertie Charlent and drama with Prof. Dr.Ulrich Peters at the ‘Akademie für Tonkunst’ in Darmstadt, Germany. 

She performed as an opera singer at the opera studio in Mainz, where she sang several main parts in various opera presentations.

Already during her studies, Patricia Zehme was engaged for several lyrical recitals in Japan, Russia, and in South America.

The following years Patricia Zehme specialised as a lyrico spinto soprano, particularly in the Belcanto- technique, studying with Prof. Cornelius Reid in New York.

By winning a ‘Bayreuth competition’ she obtained a Bayreuth scholarship of the Richard Wagner Verband Wiesbaden, singing arias of Desdemona (Othello), G.Verdi and  Elsa (Lohengrin), R.Wagner.

She was semi-finalist of the International Hans Gabor Belvedere Singing Competition in Vienna, Austria and received recognition by the jury aswell as in the international singing competition of Merano where the former conductor of the Milano Scala Carlo Maria Guilini of the jury particularly positively noticed her and invited her for personal consult.

As a winner of the ‘Ost-West Internationale Musikakademie’ competition, she gave several recitals in Altenburg, Leipzig, and Jena, and was also engaged to sing Dorinda, a main role  in the opera “Orlando” by G.F. Haendel, conducted by Maestro Herbert Handt (Italy).

At the Cathedral of Saint Bartholomew (Kaiserdom St. Bartholomäus) in Frankfurt/M, she performed for several years as a soprano soloist in several oratorios ( Vivaldi, Mendelssohn- Bartholdy, Schubert, Mozart, Brahms ) during the major religious festivals.

During the International Congress for the Celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the State of Israel “An encounter with classical Jewish Music”, she represented Mainz University as a soloist in several recitals in cooperation with the Tel Aviv National Academy of Music, under the musical direction of their Director Josef Dorfmann , and the foundations … The concerts took place in the prestigious concert venue “Villa Musica” in Mainz.

Since 2001 Patricia Zehme has lived in France, and works professionally full time as a soloist lyrico spinto soprano and stage director.  She is represented by ’Culture Spectacle’, the National Agency for professional Artists and is subsidised by the French state.

She was engaged within the ‘ Festival International Samuel Beckett ’ in Paris, at the ‘ Festival Théâtral du Val d’Oise ’ for several performances of a concert-theatre play, and has performed regularly for past years at the biannual ‘ Festival Futur Composé ‘ in Paris.

 

She was engaged to give a lyrical solo recital at the National State Theatre

‘ Les Amandiers ’ in Nanterre, on the occasion of the signing of the first convention ‘Culture in hospitals’ (Culture à l’Hôpital), presided by the former French Minister of Culture Michel Duffour and other official personalities..

Patricia Zehme was hired as a concert singer for several solo recitals at the Public Theatre  “ Théâtre le Beaumarchais ” d 'Amboise in various cultural seasons. The program consisted of a classical French and German Art song repertoire, among others the  "Four Last Songs " by Richard Strauss and an opera repertoire of Italian and French arias

The first year she sang in the Festival  "Un air d 'Italie " for the Célébration of Leonardo da Vinci. On the program were Italian opera arias by Bellini, Donizetti and Verdi among others. Again, she was accompanied by her regular partner at the piano Nicholas Ducloux.

 

Hired by the Agency " Tournesol ", which is subsidised by the French state and under the patronage of the pharmaceutical Company Glaxo SmithKline, the concert singer Patricia Zehme sang numerous solo recitals in Paris and Ile de France.  According to the venue and at the respective request of the organizer, she proposed various concert programs with her pianist Nicolas Ducloux, Italian opera arias (Verdi /Donizetti /Bellini /Rossini ), French (Gounod / Bizet / Meyerbeer ) and even rarely dramatic operetta arias by Hungarian and Viennese composers, as well as regularly Romances by Tchaikovsky as well as art songs by Liszt, R. Strauss, Schumann, Mendelssohn Bartholdy and Brahms.   

She received excellent appraisals in the press for her pluri-disciplinal performance as the wicked queen in Snow White, during which she not only interpreted the role as an actress and sang parts of Cleopatra from JULIUS CEASAR (G.F. Haendel), performed as a contemporary dancer under the direction of the choreographer Kaori Ito, and did acrobatics above stage. The performance took place several evenings at the prestigious Theatre ‘Le Montfort’ 2014 in Paris.

For several years, Patricia Zehme has also successfully created, staged and interpreted productions on Public stages (Theatres) as an opera soloist:

Paris / Argenteuil / Kronberg (2017).

These performances bring together the fields of opera (classical music) and contemporary classical theatre, in which Patricia Zehme correlates current social-critical themes, presented in the contemporary lyrics with the mythological and tragic figures from opera (Verdi / Cherubini / Boito / Bellini / Ponchielli / Donizetti ) . These productions are accompanied by small professional chamber music ensembles. Professional actors interpret the speaking roles, while Patricia Zehme interprets the staged opera roles.

 

For the last four years she performs on a regular basis in Germany, in several Concerts of sacred music as a soloist soprano, with other soloists from the National operas, accompanied by semi-professional choirs, and professional orchestras uniting instrumental soloists from the National operas.  

In Kronberg she has performed Schubert's Mass in G, ‘A Midsummer Night's Dream (Mendelssohn-Bartholdy / Shakespeare) (Soprano solo and acting of all roles) and compositions by G.F. Haendel and G. Rossini (Missa di Gloria).

She is engaged as a solo lyrical singer at the Official Celebration of the Licencing of the new Pastor Sarah Louise Tillet of St Peter's Church in Chantilly (France) in presence of the Bishop of Europe Dr Robert Innes and assisted by the Archbishop of France and Monaco Meurig Williams in June 2017.  

Recent engagements in solo recitals (partly stage directed) have included in particular major female roles in the operas of G. Verdi, such as La Forza del Destino , Il Trovatore , Ernani , Macbeth , Otello , I Vespri Siciliani , but also Medée (Cherubini) and Mefistofele (A.Boito) .

In October 2017 Patricia Zehme was programmed by the Council of the city of Kronberg (Germany) in the Cultural Season to present her Production (creation / stage direction / opera soloist )  "Grenzenlos frei!" an Opera / Theatre event, during the "Kulturnacht Kronberg 2017", performed by   Patricia Zehme (opera soloist), Yves Coméliau (actor) accompanied by Bernhard Zosel (piano/organ).

This was the adaptation (version 90 min) of her production " Bonjour toi, mon alliée la discorde! ", performed in 2014 at the Theatre " Le Vent Se Lève " in Paris.

She personally obtained "The right of presentation" of the contemporary theatrical lyrics "Trust " and "Under the Ice" by Falk Richter (Author and General Manager of the Hamburg National Opera) and those of P. Handke  "Par les Villages ", which Patricia Zehme interposed with scenes, staging the operatic arias of Medea (Cherubini), La Gioconda (Ponchielli), Mefistofele (A. Boito) and finally Macbeth (G. Verdi).

Not only did she receive excellent appraisals in the press for her performance in November 2016 as a soloist soprano in Verdi’s Requiem in Kronberg, but also for singing the soprano soloist in the oratorio “Paulus” of Mendelssohn Bartholdy this November 2017.

The soloist ensemble were all soloist singers from National State Operas in Germany with Katarina Magiera, Peter Anton Ling and Benedikt Nawrath. Both concerts were accompanied by an orchestra assembling professional instrumental soloists from the Frankfurt Radio Symphony

(Hr-Sinfonieorchester) and from the National Operas of Frankfurt,  Mainz and Wiesbaden, under the conductor Bernhard Zosel.
